Interior panel

biofibre paper panel made of 20% grass, 40% cotton, 40% wood fibre

Within the Cityloops project, Wageningen University & Research and the municipality of Apeldoorn, researched the valorisation of verge grass in locally produced materials. Fibres from grass have been made suitable for the production of paper sheets using a mechanical process. The boards are impregnated with a bio-based resin, which increases strength and water resistance.

What’s next

In addition to the economic competition with the large-scale panel industry based on wood fibres, the next challenge is the use of the side streams and the logistics of wet biomass streams.
